Working within the confines of an industry that needs to take account of regulation, planning, politics and a natural resource we balance opportunity with geographical spread. Whilst Ireland is our home, in many respects our ‘jewel’ is in the United States.
Montana has a true natural wind resource that blows from the Rockies across its vast prairies. The state has 60 million acres of land with a population of approximately 950,000. Montana has a progressive Governor in Brian Schweitzer and has access to an administration that rewards green thinking and is focused on securing an indigenous energy supply.
With offices in Chicago, Illinois and Great Falls, Montana, Gaelectric has wind energy and energy storage projects in various stages of development in the US. We have forged strong links with landowners and we are involved in all aspects of wind farm development encompassing wind measurement, permitting and grid connection.
In the US, Gaelectric controls a portfolio of over 275,000 acres of land options.
Gaelectric has accumulated a wind portfolio of twelve projects with planning consent in both Irish and UK markets, with the first operational wind farm expected in 2011. A further seven projects are currently progressing through the planning and permitting process.
