Working within the confines of an industry that needs to take account of regulation, planning, politics and a natural resource we balance opportunity with geographical spread. Whilst Ireland is our home, in many respects our ‘jewel’ is in the United States.
Montana has a true natural wind resource that blows from the Rockies across its vast prairies. The state has 60 million acres of land with a population of approximately 1.024m.
With a head office in Chicago, Illinois, Gaelectric has wind energy, biomass, and energy storage projects in various stages of development in the US. We have forged strong links with landowners and we are involved in all aspects of wind farm development encompassing wind measurement, permitting and grid connection.
In the US, Gaelectric controls a portfolio of over 300,000 acres of land options.
Gaelectric is developing a wind energy portfolio of 15 projects with planning consent on the island of Ireland. Gaelectric’s first wind farm becoming operational in May 2011. To date, Gaelectric have four commissioned wind farms, six wind farms in construction and five wind farms with planning permission. A further 2 projects are within the planning system and six projects are undergoing feasibility and environmental assessments.
