Our Portfolio
To date Gaelectric has accumulated a wind energy portfolio of 8 projects with planning consent in Ireland, with the first operational wind farm expected for the end of 2010. Gaelectric received planning permission for a wind farm on Carn Hill, Northern Ireland in February 2010. A further 12 projects are currently at various stages in the planning and permitting process. In USA Gaelectric currently controls a portfolio of 6000MW of land options.
Innovation
The realisation and integration of wind energy projects in small networks can be challenging. The further development of the energy market towards sustainability will therefore demand solutions in the fields of grid management and energy storage. Gaelectric Energy Storage Ltd. investigates the potential of Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) and Pumped Storage. Current projects include the research and development of a 140MW CAES plant in NI and several CAES projects in USA.
